Following the unveiling of seven bespoke luxury holiday apartments last year, The Point at Polzeath will continue to fuse contemporary style with ecology in its forthcoming restaurant and bar refurbishment.

Just over a year ago the popular golf and country club was transformed into a premier destination for the environmentally-conscious traveller with the addition of seven luxury holiday apartments, clad in Kebony. The Point is now expanding its use of the beautiful Kebony wood which clads the apartments into the bar, restaurant and adjacent terrace with Kebony wood flooring and decking.

In the last year The Point have clocked over 3500 guest nights and to celebrate the first anniversary they are running an offer for potential guests – a complementary bottle of Cornish Fizz from Trevibban, a new organic vineyard in Cornwall with full week stays during April.

The project takes design inspiration from the surrounding landscape, local stone is used for the walls and the acclaimed sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood, Kebony, used for the cladding and soffits complements the picturesque setting. The beautiful Kebony cladding has mellowed in colour over the year, from its original deep brown to a more muted silver grey patina, allowing the buildings to seamlessly blend in with the stunning landscape.

The patented Kebony technology permanently alters the cell structure of sustainable softwood by heating it with furfuryl alchohol. The resulting Kebony wood is exceptionally hard-wearing, with all the qualities of a tropical hardwood and without the need for expensive treatments or maintenance, which makes it the perfect material for a structure in this exposed seafront location.

The apartments all feature spacious living areas with floor to ceiling sliding doors and private terraces in order to make the most of the setting. Much of the furniture within the apartments has been ‘up cycled’ in order to ensure that the interior design matches the ecological focus of the exterior construction materials and Cornish Spiezia Organics supply the soaps and cosmetics.

Eva Davies, owner of The Point at Polzeath said of the refurbishment: ‘We’re really excited to be expanding our use of Kebony at The Point – the guests love the look of the apartment buildings and the fact that it’s all environmentally friendly, and we think it’s a beautiful material that will really improve the bar area.

Adrian Pye, International Sales Director at Kebony commented: ‘The Point is such a stunning project and the owners and designers all truly believe in building with an environmental focus which is great to see. We’re thrilled that the Kebony cladding has gone down so well with both owners and guests”
